Nine hours away

Nine hours away by Wanda Stride (copyright 2014)

for John of course.

Here is my love song for you my dear.
Carefully penned as I learn to be clear
as the sky overhead, though it turns my face red
I’ll try to be wholly sincere.

Oh it’s so hard to sleep in West Mass.
with the noise from the river and thoughts from my class
so I lie here at night trying to find you on Skype,
saying my own holy mass.

but you’re five hundred miles and nine hours away
but closer than breath in each word that I pray
I’ve still so many questions, but for now I say:
I miss you, I love you, it’s your arms I cling to
even though you’re nine hours away.

I love that you’re patient and gentle.
I love that you act sentimental
when I sing cheesy rhymes and take up all your time,
you still take me somewhere transcendental…

OK that was a pretty forced use of a term
but you love punny usages, that’s what I’ve learned!
So I guess I should mention I want your attention
as long as I’m here on this Earth…

but you’re five hundred miles and nine hours away
but closer than breath in each word that I pray
I’ve still so many questions, but for now I say:
I miss you, I love you, it’s your arms I cling to
even though you’re nine hours away.

Unbridled yearning and unscripted calling
this is the barest of barest of me.
Don’t let me fade into my own agenda!
I miss you, I love you, it’s your arms I cling to
even though you’re nine hours away.
I miss you, I love you, it’s your arms I cling to
even though you’re nine hours away
even though you’re nine hours away.
