Mi Salvador

Mi Salvador, by Wanda Stride (copyright 2014)

You hold up the cloth full of stains of hate, full of holes of wrath
and you have lived through darkness, lost the ones you love to the violence
You, your heart still bleeds, cannot forget the pain and cannot forget the greed

Still I can’t understand, while he hates you, you shake his hand
and I can’t comprehend but thank God I don’t have to
mi salvador

Here, the distant hills still remind of fear and horrifying kills
but here in rising sun, a sacrifice of peace, a new day has begun

Still I can’t understand, while he hates you, you shake his hand
and I can’t comprehend but thank God I don’t have to
mi salvador

Now, we sing this song, we paint the beauty for which we’ve longed
and now, instead of guns, we give our children voices, we give the peace we’ve won

Still I can’t understand, while he hates you, you shake his hand
and I can’t comprehend but thank God I don’t have to
mi salvador
