Half open window

Half open window by Wanda Stride (copyright 2014)

Were we put on this earth to make our mark?
were we put on this earth to serve others?
were we put on this earth to bring glory to God?
or are we a random expression of atoms?

Well take all these questions and lay them down.
You’re done with wondering now.
The pain and uncertainty, frustrating length of days
flutter around you like butterfly wings
Well show them the way out the half-open window.
lay down your head now and rest.

Helen you stayed here a hundred years.
Helen you saw it unfold:
all the wars, the depression, the sadness, elation
are somehow your story of love.

So leave all the painful times back here in Eden.
Take only love to your home.
The pain and uncertainty, frustrating length of days
flutter around you like butterfly wings
making their way out the half-open window.
lay down your head now and rest.

We talked about blame, and we talked about shame
We talked about lofty ideals.
Maybe today it would go a new way, and be light as the flutter of butterfly wings
making their way out the half-open winowlay down your head now, surrounded by true love. Lay down your head now in peace.
